Bonemate® Plus……Get The Best…and Leave the Rest! .

This one Really Counts for more than your Bones

by Shop Talk Notes on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 8:05pm

For those wanting to strengthen their bones and provide a boost to their immune system, BoneMate® Plus provides calcium, vitamin D, and other ingredients needed for optimal health.*

PRODUCT INFORMATION

BoneMate® Plus is specially formulated to help maintain optimal bone health.* It contains three forms of calcium ( Phosphate, Citrate, Malate) and vitamin D to maximize absorption and aid in the support of healthy bones, teeth, nerves, heart, and muscle tissue.*

As we age, we cannot feel our bones getting weaker. As such, we may not know we have osteoporosis until a bone is fractured from a minor fall or some other common occurrence. Women are especially susceptible to bone mass loss in later years, and can lose up to 20 percent of bone mass after menopause.1 Approximately one in two women and one in four men over age 50 will have an osteoporosis related fracture in their remaining lifetime.1

To help prevent bone loss and strengthen the immune system, BoneMate® Plus contains the following ingredients:

Calcium – Calcium is a major structural element of calcified tissues like bone and teeth. Three different forms of calcium: dicalcium malate, tricalcium phosphate, and calcium citrate, help ensure that optimal amounts of calcium are absorbed by the body.*

Magnesium – An essential part of over 300 metabolic reactions, magnesium is necessary for energy production, synthesis of essential molecules, bone support, cell signaling and more.*2

Vitamin C – A vitamin essential to proper health, vitamin C is a water-soluble molecule that helps to protect eyesight,3 increase iron absorption,4 and strengthen collagen.*5

Vitamin D – Recent research has shown how important vitamin D supplementation is to good health.6,7 Unfortunately, many of us are not getting the amounts we need.* Surveys have found that 7.6 million American children are vitamin D deficient.8

Vitamin K – Vitamin K has been found to assist in the normal growth and development of bone tissue while preventing cartilage and soft tissue from being calcified.*9

Trace Minerals – BoneMate® Plus also contains the trace minerals boron, zinc, manganese, and copper.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Immunity Boost

While vitamin D is well known for its ability to enhance the absorption and effectiveness of calcium, very few people are aware of its ability to stimulate our immune system. Vitamin D research has discovered that vitamin D may stimulate and be an important part of a healthy immune system.*6,7,13,14

U.S. Recommendations are not Sufficient for Vitamin D

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

An article published in the Oct. 2009 edition of Nature Reviews: Endocrinology highlights that supplementation with the currently recommended vitamin D levels of 400 IU falls well short of being effective.

The article was written by Dr. Bruce Hollis, a respected researcher that has published numerous articles on vitamin D and its role in cardiovascular disease, cancer, osteoporosis and more. Do any sort of search on vitamin D and chances are good that his name will come up.

Hollis discusses how the current recommendations of 400 IU don’t do anything to increase serum (blood) levels of vitamin D. Vitamin D sufficiency (adequate levels) is defined as having vitamin D levels above 75 nmol/l. In one study, they found that 74% of postmenopausal women had levels lower than 50 nmol/l. Vitamin D levels this low are implicated in a number of diseases in epidemiological studies.

The graph below, taken from the article, shows how vitamin D supplementation below 1,000 IUs/day did not significantly increase serum levels of vitamin D.

To put this in plain English:

When you take vitamin D supplements that provide a daily dose of less than 1,000 IU you are paying for nothing, literally.

BVitamin-D-graphoneMate Plus provides you with 4,000 IU of quality vitamin D3, as well as calcium and other minerals that help the body to utilize and better absorb calcium.

Dosage studies show that it is best to space out your calcium supplementation – as more will be absorbed this way. We recommend that you take BoneMate Plus in the morning and then at night. Bone Mate Plus is FDA Approved

Bone Health and Osteoporosis

Friday, September 18th, 2009

bonefamily

The US Surgeon General reports that half of all women older than 50 will break a bone because of osteoporosis. Up to one in four men will too. And breaking a bone when you’re older is serious. It can lead to immobility, which in turn can lead to isolation, depression and other health problems. More than 20 percent of seniors who break a hip will die within one year. Many of those who survive will need long-term nursing home care.

wheelchair Thirty years ago, most people considered osteoporosis and broken bones to be a part of normal aging. That view has changed. Researchers today know    a        lot about how you can protect your bones throughout your life with nutrition and exercise. And although it’s never too late to start protecting your                          bones, the best time to begin is while you’re young.

Individuals who consume adequate amounts of calcium and vitamin D throughout life should enjoy better overall bone health for two reasons. First, they         are more likely to achieve optimal skeletal mass early in life, and second, they are less likely to lose bone later in life. The net result should be higher bone         mass and fewer fractures.

Bone Health and Osteoporosis:
A Report of the Surgeon General

“An estimated 10 million Americans over age 50 have osteoporosis (the most common bone disease), while brokenbones.JPGanother 34 million

are at risk. Each year an estimated 1.5 million people suffer an osteoporotic-related fracture, an event that often leads to a downward

spiral in physical and mental health. In fact, 20 percent of senior citizens who suffer a hip fracture die within 1 year. One out of every

two women over 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime, with risk of fracture increasing with age. Due primarily

to the aging of the population and the previous lack of focus on bone health, the number of hip fractures in the United States could

double or even triple by the year 2020.”

Vitamin D is Essential
Dietary supplements are the key way to deliver consumers’ vitamin D requirements, according to the latest update from the Harvard Medical School.

The September Harvard Health Publications bulletin stated: “It’s not an issue of food quantity, but rather food quality. Even a low-calorie diet can deliver all the vitamins and minerals you need, with one exception – vitamin D. So plan to take a vitamin D supplement.”

More Support for Vitamin D

Millions of US Children Low in Vitamin D

Recent studies suggest that vitamin D does more than help build strong bones; it may help to prevent hypertension, and some autoimmune diseases.

American Academy of Dermatology Issues Updated Position Statement on Vitamin D

The American Academy of Dermatology recently issued an updated position statement on vitamin D after an updated review of the increasing body of scientific literature on this vitamin and its importance for optimal health.

The Academy continues to recommend that the public obtain vitamin D from nutritional sources and dietary supplements, and not from unprotected exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or indoor tanning devices, as UV radiation is a known risk factor for the development of skin cancer.

The Academy’s position statement on vitamin D now also states that individuals who regularly and properly practice sun protection, such as the daily use of sunscreen on exposed skin or the wearing of sun protective clothing, may be at risk for vitamin D insufficiency. A higher dose of vitamin D may be necessary for these individuals and others with known risk factors for vitamin D insufficiency, such as those with dark skin, the elderly, photosensitive individuals, people with limited sun exposure, obese individuals or those with fat malabsorption. Therefore, the Academy encourages those with concerns about their levels of vitamin D to discuss options for obtaining sufficient dietary or supplementary sources of vitamin D with their physician.

Calcium Magnesium Complex by Unicity

Monday, December 15th, 2008

All Calcium-Magnesium is not the same!  This one is chelated which means it gets absorbed by the body and does not travel through to the toilet.

I enjoyed seeing my grandson instantly come out of  screaming  agony from gas when we gave him 1/2 tsp of  (1/4 tsp Cal Mag in 2 tbsp of water).  He instantly brightened up and had the best night his parents could remember!

CAL MAG INGREDIENTS

Calcium–Is vital for the formation of strong bones and teeth and for the maintenance of healthy gums. It’s important in the maintenance of a regular heartbeat and for the transmission of nerve impulses. Calcium lowers cholesterol levels and helps prevent cardiovascular disease. It is needed for muscle growth and contraction and for prevention of muscle cramps. It may increase the rate of bone growth and bone mineral density in children. It is essential in blood clotting and helps prevent cancer. It may lower blood pressure and prevent bone loss associated with osteoporosis. Calcium provides energy and participates in the protein structuring of RNA and DNA. It is involved with the activation of several enzymes including lipase, which breaks down fats for utilization by the body. Calcium maintains proper cell membrane permeability, aids in neuromuscular activity, helps to keep skin healthy, and protects against pre-eclampsia during pregnancy. If high blood pressure develops during pregnancy, it can be reduced by calcium intake. Calcium protects bones and teeth from lead by inhibiting absorption of this toxic metal.

Magnesium-

The beneficial effects of magnesium are numerous. It was reported in the March 1, 2003 edition of the prestigious American Journal of Cardiology that patients with known coronary artery disease who were given magnesium not only improved exercise tolerance, but also reduced exercise induced chest pain, while improving quality of life.-is a vital catalyst in enzyme activity, especially those involved in energy production. It assists in calcium and potassium uptake. Deficiency of magnesium interferes with the transmission of nerve and muscle impulses causing irritability and nervousness. Magnesium can help prevent depression, dizziness, muscle weakness and twitching, and PMS. It aids in maintaining the body’s proper pH balance and normal body temperature. It prevents the calcification of soft tissue and protects the arterial linings from stress caused by sudden blood pressure changes. Magnesium plays a role in the formation of bone and in carbohydrate and mineral metabolism. Along with vitamin B-6, magnesium helps to reduce and dissolve calcium phosphate kidney stones and may prevent calcium-oxalate kidney stones. Research shows a link to the prevention of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and certain forms of cancer, and may reduce cholesterol (probably in correlation with calcium). It is effective in preventing premature labor and convulsions in pregnant women as well as reducing birth defects such as mental retardation and cerebral palsy.

Manganese–minute quantities of manganese are needed for protein and fat metabolism, healthy nerves, a healthy immune system, and blood sugar regulation. It is used in energy production, bone growth and for reproduction. It is used for production of cartilage and synovial (lubricating) fluid of the joints. It is necessary for the synthesis of bone. It is essential to people with iron-deficiency anemia’s and is needed to utilize vitamin B-1 and E. In conjunction with other B vitamins, it gives an overall feeling of well-being. It aids in the formation of mother’s milk. It is a key element in the production of enzymes that metabolize fat.

Boron–is needed in trace amounts for healthy bones and muscle growth. Boron assists in the production of natural steroid compounds within the body. It is necessary for the metabolism of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. It enhances brain function, promotes alertness, and plays a role in how the body utilizes energy form fats and sugars. Boron helps prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis and build muscle.

Vitamin D–is a fat-soluble vitamin that has properties of both a vitamin and a hormone. It is required for the absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus. It is necessary for growth, especially for the growth and development of bones and teeth in children. It protects against muscle weakness and helps to regulate the heartbeat. It is important in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and hypocalcaemia, and it enhances immunity. Vitamin D is necessary for thyroid function and normal blood clotting.
