Local Attraction- Park City, Utah
Park City is a short 35 minute ride from the Salt Lake City International Airport. The town three world-
class mountain resorts within five miles of each other. And don't forget the Utah Olympic Park in Park City, the site of the 2002 Olympic bobsled and ski jumping events.
Park City is the place to be in the summertime, too. Whether it's shopping at a host of boutiques and specialty shops, dining at one of more than 100 restaurants, or enjoying the arts, culture, history and recreation of this mountain town, Park City is perfect year-round.
History
Long before Park City became a world class mountain resort and venue for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, it was famous as a silver mining town, and boasts a lively and colorful past. Founded by prospectors in the late 1860's, Park City continued to mine silver until the early 1970's. Park City was incorporated as a city in 1884. The mining company, Park City Consolidated Mines, started the ski business in 1963, when they built the first lifts on what was then called Treasure Mountain. The Park City area now has three world class resorts: Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain Resort, and the Canyons Resort. Today, Park City is a unique blend of the old and new. Sixty-four of Park Citys buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, many of which are located along the towns Main Street, and more than 1,200 miles of tunnels wind through the surrounding mountains, remnants of the mining era.
Shopping
Park City Main Street is lined with quaint shops, boutiques and galleries. Here is where you can find the latest fashions for every occasion. There are children stores, funky teen shops, sporting goods and designer collections for women. Art Galleries present a distinctive selection of original paintings, sculptures, engravings, woodwork, and fine jewelry from professional local artists as well as nationally
acclaimed artists. Many galleries host special exhibits throughout the year as well as artist's demonstrations in painting and sculpting. Now if you are a brand name shopper, Park City has over 60 outlet stores with all the big names. Find Polo Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Guess, Banana Republic, Nike, Ann Taylor, Gap, and the list just goes on and on. All located together so you can run from one store to the next. If you are a shopper, be sure and plan an extra day in your vacation to do all the shopping Park City has to offer. Restaurants Park City offers a full range of dining options, from award-winning gourmet restaurants to unique corner bistros to conventional fast food. Excellent eateries can be found at each of the resorts and close to all lodging establishments.
